About us

Kurt Ulbricht (October 24, 1902 - February 1, 2004) founded our handicraft enterprise on November 1, 1953 under adverse circumstances in the real existing socialism. He started with little initial capital and a few partly borrowed old machines and tools. Through much hard work, humility and determination he managed to establish himself. There has been enough work in the economy of scarcity at that time. Although many adversities our company expanded and the number of employees grew from one to four employees, including sons Christopher and Dietmar Ulbricht. And several apprentices were trained.


The machines and tools from our company were in great demand in Seiffen and surrounding area. Soon more than 150 shops and toy makers from near and far became regular customers.
1989 times turned and 1990 came the German reunion. A time of optimism. Finally free, living in a free market economy. After initially rather cautious buying and ordering interest of our customers, the order situation developed good in the 1990's. Many toy makers invested in modernization of its machinery. But we learned also the negative sides of the free economy: growing competitive pressure, cheap machine imports from Far East and the general decline in payment habits developed partly problematic. Unfortunately this trend amplified since the introduction of the EUR and the resulting price increases. The impact of the world's rapidly rising raw material and energy prices was noticeable in the entire region in the form of massive loss of purchasing power and pessimism of the people living and working here.


Since January 1,1997 Dietmar Ulbricht led the destiny of our craft business. The steadily growing number of leisure and hobby wood turner offered our small company a reasonable chance to survive in the market here in the Ore Mountains. Son Erik Ulbricht took over the management of the company on January 1, 2010.
